Question: The previous owner had installed a Rainsoft ultraviolet water purificationunit ( we are on a well ). The bulb has burned out and I've been lookingfor a dealer to get a replacement ( the bulb is a LBRE 12 ) In my searching internet, I've seen a lot of bad things about Rainsoft andsome bad things about ultraviolet purification anyway. Should I try to get a replacement or scrap the unit and replace it. If so,with what ? Our water usage is very low, but the well is very shallow ( 35-40' max ).I've had the water tested several times with no problems with bacteria, butwhen we have sustained heavy rains, the water turns cloudy.
Answer: They don't/didn't make the light. With proper maintenance UV isconsidered by many to be the best choice for controling bacteria etc.in 'potable' water. Done right UV is hard to beat, and we can discussthat if you like. We should discuss the cloudy water after a rain! Itsounds like you need a new well or better treatment, like a turbidityfilter. The LBRE-12 is the model of the light. It's a 12 gpm light. I havebulbs and other parts available for any model LBR, LBRE, RE etc. UVlight. There are 'better' quality lights, like those with intensity monitorsand higher intensity lamps (bulbs; class A) but I have many LBR* andother models/makes (class B) in the field that work very well.
