Question: I'd like to know if 3 ppm chlorine in tap water really does have aneffect on the dye retention of colored clothes. Is it the chlorine thatcauses them to fade like the people who make Tide would like me tobelieve? If so, what can I use to neutralize the chlorine?
Answer: Or boil the water very briefly, or simply let it sit, in an open mouthedcontainer, for an hour (give or take). Chlorine is used in many water purification tablet and the water bottlesmust be sealed while the purification is occurring or the chlorine willescape, very quickly, into the air. Halogens just aren't that soluble inwater, and chlorine is a gas at room temperature, so it passes quickly outof solution.
