Question: My wife and I are soon buying a 27+ cubic foot Frigidaire. It's my understanding that the ice-making mechanisms on these things are quite fragile, that you have to use them several times a day or they will jam up and break, or something of that nature. Does anybody know the straight scoop on this?
Answer: It's not clear whether you mean Frigidaire ice-makers specifically or ice-makers in general. I can tell you that I have a Sears refrigerator with an ice-maker that has been working fine for 10 years or so, and we turn it off for days and weeks at a time depending on how much ice we are using. So clearly there are some ice-makers that don't require daily use. I can't speak directly to Frigidaire models though I don't know about the frigidaire, but we have a brand new Kennmore, that we turn off for days at a time. We've even shut it off, after we heard it fill, and it's been woking now for four months. Meanwhile I have a question.....is it really difficult to install icemaker water filters? (we have well water, and sometimes, we have cloudy or dirty, or bad tasting ice
