Question: My rabbit Floppy (mini lop) stopped drinking from his water bottle. His water bottle hadn't been working for a day, so he hadn't drinken, but i fixed it. Then, he wouldn't drink from it. He would only drink from bowls. So, I went to the petstore and a worker said that he may have recognized the smell of the old water bottle and probably still thought it didn't work. So, I bought a new one, and he won't drink from there either. I know he's thirsty, he'll lick any water on my fingers and drink out of the bowl, except just not out of the water bottle. I can't monitor if he's drinking either, cuz who knows if he drank the water from the bowl or just stepped in it or tipped it. I don't understand what's happening, because he's been drinking from the water bottle for six months. It got jammed once before, and I fixed it. But, for some reason that time he didn't stop drinking. I don't think he's sick, cuz he's still got his appetite for food
Answer: I got Mr. Bunny a new water bottle one time and he didn't want to drink from it. What I did was when I hung it up, I tapped the ball so water came out on my finger. Then I put it up to his mouth so he could feel that there was water on my finger. I did that maybe 5 times, and then just left him alone. Eventually, he started drinking from the water bottle, and he's been fine ever since. When you tap the water bottle ball, make sure Floppy sees where it's coming from. So he'll know that the water is coming from the water bottle. I don't know if you are aware of this but rabbits actually drink less water in summer and MORE in winter!!! I'm not sure where you live and what season you are experiencing at the moment but that might also explain as to why Floppy won't drink his water.
