Question:
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about water filters. We are considering either a faucet mounted or countertop system. We want to get a better taste and protection against bacteria

Answer: I put in a standard inline filter holder under the kitchen sink about 15 years ago. Just a 'T' and valve off the cold water line going to the faucet. I added a seperate faucet in the corner of the sink for the filtered water. Initially I used carbon filter cartfidges (about $8) changing every 3 or four mounths. A major inprovement in taste and reduced chlorine. Lately I have been using filters which have a .5 or .2 micron pore size and are supposed to absorb some metals also. These are $25 at Lowes or Home Depot.

The perminant installation is a major improvement in convenience and filter capacity over the faucet mounted which we used for many years.

You may find some water filtration systems at the Home Depot, but of lesser quality. Furthermore, they usually carry those for a short period of time and it then becomes diificult to find replacement elements. we carry a wide range of water purification systems in our site. Most of our Culligan products will do the job for you to improve greatly the taste and eliminate all traces of bacteria. However, the ultimate protection is certainly a reverse osmosis system with an ultra violet lamp, which will eliminate absolutely all kinds of contaminants that may be in your tap water.
