Question: i had a pipe in the wall of the kitchen, for the hot water to the sink. How difficult is it breaking into the slab? Fix the pipe? Fix the
Answer: .. it developed a hole(when the built the house they put a nail into the copper pipe and soldered it and about three yrs. later it developed a leak about 2 ft. above the floor and i had a hot spot on the floor about two feet from the wall, the sink cabinets, etc. were in the way... i tore out the flooring of the cabinet and the wall under the sink and found the culprit, it was coming out like steam, i guess it just trickled down and under the sink and under the vinyl tile... i had to cut the pipe and put in a new 2 foot section and some fittings and cured the problem...... just trying to resolder the problem did not work... too much hot water, steam in the pipe, it just kept pushing the solder out of the way The hardest part of the whole procedure was trying to solder a new copper piece. Since it was below grade he had to use silver solder, and due to a bad valve a small trickle of water remained in the pipe lowering the temp enough to keep the solder from catching. He finally put enough heat to vaporize the water and get a good seam. The original hole was about 1/8" long by about a fingernail wide. There was 100 lbs of hot water pressure coming through that fissure, and I knew it was pressure because I could hear it even though it was 16" under the floor!
