Question: I'm in a quandary here. My father is a dentist, and when he realized I was drinking either well water or bottled water in my pregnancy, he freaked out, and wrote me a prescription for flouride tablets (he's a dentist).I'm interested in finding any information regarding flouride and it's pros and cons. Does anyone know of any websites with UNBIASED information (I'm not talking about the ADA, or the rabid anti-flouridators, both of which have an agenda) complete with studies, methodology and data? I'm interested in long-term and short term effects both good and bad
Answer: I don't know of any studies or statistics for you, but my feeling on this is I'd go with my midwife's advice if I were you. I'm sure it's much harder to not take the supplements since it is your dad and not just some random dentist prescribing them for you. But I think that a midwife knows more about what's good for a fetus than a dentist. Just a point of clarification... even where flouridated water isn't available? My house is on well water, and we drink that or bottled water. Dad wanted the baby to have the supplements, but only through me.
