Question:
Has anyone hooked up a bottled water dispenser to their icemaker/water dispenser on their frig? I'm thinking about hiding a bottle of water in the cabinet above the frig and allowing gravity to feed the icemaker. Any experiences?

Answer: Never really thought of it. But I can think of something similar: there is a type of water bottle made for RV's to do the same thing. The bottle is a collapsible plastic thing that is placed on the roof of the RV, filled with water, and then connected to the RV's water inlet with a hose. It allows the RV's plumbing to be used in areas where a hookup isn't available. Obviously, you don't get very much head (pressure) this way. For best results, consider:

1. Use a larger hose or tube to connect the bottle to the fridge. On some fridges, the compression fitting at the connection to the water valve is actually an adapter; unscrew it, and you can connect a standard-sized garden hose.

2. See if it's possible to relocate the valve from the bottom of the fridge, to reduce the run of narrow-diameter plastic tubing between the valve and the icemaker/dispenser.

3. Get the bottle up as high as possible, and keep it as near full as possible.

4. You'll probably have to reset the cube size control on the icemaker to allow for the lower pressure.
